Self Containment Checklist

See if your vehicle is ready for self-containment by completing our checklist.

 

This checklist is based on the NZS 5465—2001 standard and the Self—contained Motor Vehicles Legislation Act 2023 but is by no means comprehensive. Depending on your specific setup, other considerations may need to be made, including materials, quality, positioning, and dimensions.

 

Fresh water tank

o Capacity of >12 L per person (min 24 L)

o Adequate restraint

o Tank has a seal/cap

o Tank material is either opaque or coloured

o Fresh water pipe is opaque or coloured

o Tank inlet is >25mm in diameter (>12mm if pressure feed)

o Air vent

 

   Grey water tank

o Capacity of >12 L per person (min 24 L) 

o Adequate restraint

o Tank has a seal/cap

o Air vent >10mm in diameter extending above the flood line (lowest sink or shower) terminating outside the vehicle

o Tank material is non corrodible

o Evacuation Hose >3m (If the grey water tank is fixed in place).

 

Sink

o Waste pipe length <3 meter in length or air admittance valve installed
